Bring on the sailing [Posted by Kate on Mon 14th Mar 05]
Hope everyone is ready to go. Following two weeks of freezing temperatures and hard graft from the crew, Uproar is back in the water. It was rumoured that club members had never seen so many people working on a boat 28ft let alone a 40 footer!! At one point there were seven of us burnishing and polishing the hull. We have gained some sponsorship over the winter from Ringwood Brewery and Dean & Reddyhoff marinas which is most welcome and I hope we will give something back to them. Sunday 20th March brings our first race this season which we are all looking forward to. We will be out training on Saturday checking blocks and sails and ensuring we remove any teething problems prior to our first race.
We have some new crew members this year due to various commitments making it a young crew with Steve at 24, the oldest and Charlie,18 the youngest. Despite this it is a very experienced and talented crew. Tom has joined the navy as a pilot and so will not be able to give as much time. Chris Doe has been recruited from Panache (Elan 333) to replace him though. Karen will not be with us for the Spring Series but may join us for a few other regattas due to university work and sailing the RS 400 more competitively. Georgie Blavermann will be replacing her to keep up the girly gossip line with Kate and to be the main trimmer working alongside Chris. Steve Hooper has been taken back by Kudos (Elan 31) so Sam Pearson has taken his place as main sheet and tactician coming after helming the winning commodores challenge boat, with Georgie and Charlie as part of the crew. Steve has recovered well from his spinal operation, is back to full fitness and raring to go. Kate and Charlie remain in the same places working well together.
We are looking forward to a good year and hopefully many trophies and lots of fun!!
