With a lot of running around, help and the say-so of the specialist I got the go-ahead to have a go at sailing again. This is great news as Sunday was the first race of the 2005 Spring series. The previous weekend several of the crew had mucked in to help prepare the bottom of the boat and Kate had spent some of her holiday time seeing that it was relaunched and most of the bits (including sails) were back on board

With all the problems out of the way it was time to race. What a great feeling it was to sail again and not be in pain. The start gun went and so did we with the wind at about 15-20 kts it was a good wind for the Impala. We choose to use the No2 which was OK but we would have been even faster up the first beat with the old No1 which we changed to later in the race. With the visibility being only about ½ mile the first beat was difficult as the buoy was a over a mile away and the batteries for the GPS had gone for a swim!! We found the first mark in the lead and never looked back sailing away into the mist to win by over 3 mins from 2nd place boat Celerity.
