Winter series race 1 and 2 [Posted by Kate on Tue 18th Oct 05]

Race 1

The bay looked like a mill pond though luckily it was hot and sunny. After an hour's postponement the fleet got away in a force 2/3. We were first round the first mark and never really looked back though it looked very dubious on the last beat as the wind dropped to nothing and was spinning 180 degrees at time whereas the boats behind were coming up on a reach with a force 3. Luckily we managed to finish first on the water and on corrected time.

Race 2

This couldn't have been more different with a large swell meeting us as we left the harbour with gusts up to 18knots. As we got to the start line, a large pool of water was noticed in the boat and the next 15 minutes were spent mopping up and stopping the engine as it was the stern gland causing this. Steve then promptly threw up after a heavy night and not being able to cope with his head between his knees!! Dan then followed in sympathy and proceed to do so on the leeward rail up the first beat!! We were first round the windward mark and finished in this posiiton despite not holding our kite on the final reach.
